GATED COMMUNITY

In Chungking Mansions, a unique phenomenon is observed. The community inside the building actively isolates themselves from the outside world, but keeps self-sustaining by internal business activities. For residents, this gated society is regarded as a safety zone, a temporary home to stay.

 

This project is to express the conceptual impression about the community in Chungking Mansions in the form of conceptual model. In my expression, the feeling of isolation is emphasized by building an atrium at the center of the block. In the atrium, isolated spatial quality is provided, which is favorable for the gated community to live isolatedly, without being disturbed by other people. The design focuses on circulation, ventilation and window design to interpret active isolation.
