City of Zora
CITY OF ZORA
conceptual | imaginary narrative | model expression
Zora is an imaginary city mentioned in Italo Calvino’s book of “Invisible Cities”. This project is to express the conceptual impression about Zora in the form of conceptual model. Described by the story, Zora is a place of memory, an ordinary city possessing a clear armature. It is so unforgettable that “this city cannot be expunged from the mind like a honeycomb, in whose cells each of us can place the things he wants to remember.”
In my expression, a succession of blocks refers to buildings symbolising people’s memory about Zora. They are inserted throughout a regular and repetitive armature, as if memories comprising the whole city. If the blocks are removed out, the structure can no longer support each other and the city collapses.
